How to start crop production with no money or little money

Crop production part 1

How to start crop production with no funds or very little funds Farming needs passion, perseverance, commitment, dedication, discipline and hard work and a truck load of faith. If you are an aspiring farmer then you need to have all those aspects mentioned above.

If you don't have any agricultural qualifications then you should at least have basic skills development training,it will make your life a lot easier to know and understand your crops. Now let's talk about your land/farm.

The key is to always start small. Of course the thought of having a 10 hectare farm utilised is exciting but it's always wise to take baby steps. So what if you don't have seeds? So what if your farm doesn't have irrigation? Don't let all that be a set back meant to stall your greatness. If you can't get tractors then invite your entire friends and family over for a hoe party, do it the old way. Earlier we discussed business plans, you can never go wrong if you have one of those on paper.

A business plan unlocks doors keys can't unlock. The disadvantage of not having funds is that you need to work a hundred times harder. You need to be prepared for disappointments, rejection and hard labour. Disappointments and rejections are part of the journey, show me any successful person who had it easy?very few.

The first and far most important thing is securing your land and making sure that it's not accessible to intruders and uninvited guests who will harm your crops. How many Nurseries do you know where you live? Plenty right?and shops that sells seeds?many.

That is exactly where you will start. Impress the managers and I promise you will score a bag or two of seeds. Take the phone and call the nearest store or nursery and arrange for a meeting with the store manager. Get up,dress up and walk into the store/shop/nursery like you are going for a job interview. Speak like a farmer, walk like a farmer and sell your business to the potential donors/sponsors. They always have the community's best interest at heart. Approach them like you would approach investors.

They will donate seeds and some of the things which you might need to get started. Don't expect to get all that you need but be very grateful for what you will get. Start small so that you don't overwhelm your self with a big project which might defeat you in the end,you are in this to win. Irrigation system shouldn't be a huge deal when you have just started,Rome wasn't built in one day. Go ahead use those buckets to water your plants.

Sell the little that you have produced, buy more seeds with the profit. The secret to growing is on how you spend your profits. Don't rush in to spoiling yourself with the profit, buy more of the things your farm needs. Grow your business and play with other kids later when we find your produce in popular shops.
